Terminal. East Boston, Massachusetts, Major Oil Company Visual imagery was utilized to document the influence of tidal cycles on the ground water system that had been impacted by various LNAPL product types. Mobility analyses were conducted. Results of the analyses were utilized in refinement of the site conceptual model and in assessing remedial strategies. Large Environmental Firm, GIS Analysis As a GIS analyst for a large environmental firm, one of our professionals provided ArcGIS-based map production and data processing in support of client documents, GIS software training, and database development and maintenance. Large Engineering Firm, GIS Analysis As a GIS Analyst for a large engineering firm, one of our professionals specialized in data conversion, mapping and analysis using ArcInfo, ArcView and AutoCAD software. He also automated map production and data processing tasks using ArcInfo AML programming. Native American Community, GIS Analysis As a GIS analyst for a Native American community, one of our professionals was responsible for the maintenance and development of the community GIS and for the automation of its processes. His other responsibilities included GIS program needs assessment, interdepartmental coordination of GIS data, creation of GIS policies and procedures, and purchasing and maintenance of hardware and software. COC Distribution Mapping, 6-Mile River Segment, Washington One of our professional staff conducted and served as a technical advisor for PCB sediment mapping for a major river system in Washington. A section of the river approximately 6 miles long was contaminated by PCB. Extensive sampling of the river sediment was conducted, but an accurate PCB distribution map was needed to guide the cleanup activities. Utilizing his expertise in statistical and geostatistical techniques, our professional staff evaluated the performance of several mapping techniques including kriging, inverse distance weighted (IDW), and Thiessen Polygon methods. He examined the differences in these methods, suggested ways to improve the sediment mapping, and provided suggestions on how to assess sediment-mapping uncertainty. Three-Dimensional COC Visualization and Calculation, Northeast Florida In a project in northeastern Florida, one of our professional staff utilized visual imagery to visualize and calculate the three-dimensional distribution of PAH contamination in sediment. The three-dimensional delineations and calculated volumes were crucial in the development of an excavation plan. Three-Dimensional Modeling of Geology and COC Distribution, West Washington In western Washington, one of our professional staff developed a three-dimensional model of the site including the upland area and part of Lake Union. He visualized the geology and COC distribution in both the upland and the lake sediment to assist remedial design. |
